Kai Wiesinger is an ambassador
The well-known and popular film and TV star is the first ambassador from the entertainment sector.
For the first time, the German bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup is being supported by an ambassador who is not from the world of sport. Kai Wiesinger, successful actor and enthusiastic amateur golfer, has declared his willingness to take on this task - and he will back up the bid to the hilt. "Above all time constraints mean that I hardly ever play in competitions any more, but a worldwide event of this stature here in Germany would be fantastic."
Born in Hanover in 1966, Wiesinger came into contact with golf at an early age: "My father took me with him to the golf course when I was a child and showed me the basics. Perhaps that's why I still prefer to play with him and enjoy the "men's talk" during the round." As a boy, he regularly played in competitions and reached a playing handicap of -8. However, he then decided on a career in the arts and to move to the Bavarian state capital, Munich.
That is where he took acting lessons and made his theatrical debut in 1990. Today, he is in demand for both film and TV productions.
For his performances, he has already received the Bavarian Film Award for best actor three times – "Kleine Haie", " The Harmonists", "14 Tage lebenslänglich" and "Hunger – Longing for Love". At the Móstoles Film Festival in Madrid in 2009, he received the award for best actor in the film "The Reason Why".
Spontaneously, he has made himself available for the leading role in an informative film about the Ryder Cup that is well worth seeing. Within a few minutes, he gives easy-to-understand answers to the most important questions ranging from "What is the Ryder Cup?" to "Where would it be staged in Germany?". Along the way, he plays some golf and shows that he still has a game. His wish for 2018: to follow the Ryder Cup matches live in Germany together with his father!
